Due Dates through the end of the Semester

You need to submit the Intaglio prints by Friday, May 11. (2 black prints and one chine colle print)
You need to submit the litho prints by Monday, May 14. (2 black prints and one monoprint)

Your final is Friday, May 18th. All seniors must arrange to take their exams.

Litho Project

Photoshop Editing Directions

Litho Series: Create a “photo” design for a litho series. The design should have both photography and drawing elements by using both sharpie and ballpoint pen. Create two prints using black ink, one print using colored ink, and a series of three images where you combine monotype with litho to create monoprints. 

These prints are due by Friday, May 11.

April 23-27: Work on Intaglio Print series


  • Monday: Work on intaglio plate. Focus on value and creating emphasis. Use "aquatint"for the darkest values. Demo chine colle and tissue staining. Discuss creating paper for alternative monoprints of the intaglio design.

April 16-20: Work on etching project


  • Monday: Work on design for etching and on the Pre-Planning pages for etching project.
  • Tuesday: Transfer design to etching plate. The first layer should be the main drawing. Focus on creating value through line.
  • Wednesday: Pre-Planning Pages for Etching Project are due! Etch the drawing and make first printing. 
  • ThursdayRe-apply acrylic resist and etch for darker values. Re-etch.
  • FridayDiscuss creating 5 backgrounds to complete the project. Work on printing the 2nd etching.

April 9-13: Intaglio etching


  • Monday: Complete the beveling of your zinc plate.
  • Tuesday: Work on mini-labs using aluminum flashing. Make the following:
    • drypoint
    • simple line drawing
    • hatching grayscale in 5 shades
    • crosshatching grayscale in 5 shades
  • Wednesday: Complete aluminum flashing mini-lab.
  • ThursdayWork on the intaglio pre-planning and complete design based on the lino print series. 
  • FridayPrepare zinc for etching.

March 5-15: Reductive Lino based on Artist-Inspiration



Ooops, I forgot to blog last week... Last week we were working on our reductive linoleum prints. All should be printing their first color layers for their lino series of 10. Here is your rubric for this project. 


  • For this weekYou should be printing through the second color layer by Friday. Remember you are printing a 10-print series. You need to take  mid-point photo of the series and discuss what is working.  Project due date will be set by the end of the week.

  • Thursday: Begin planning for the color reduction print - take favorite thumbnail and make a color coded working maquette of the print on tracing paper.
